I have accepted that I’m probably not going to stop talking about my favorite cupcake shops anytime soon. I hope you’re ok with that. So instead of pretending like I’m not going to write another review I’m going to embrace it and roll out a new recurring post: Frosting Friday where I report on my most recent cupcake discoveries and news. It may be bi-weekly or weekly but either way, there seem to be a lot of cupcakes in my life and so much to say!
To start, I had a Groupon for a dozen cupcakes from Trophy Cupcakes and I forgot about it only to realize it expired this week on the 23rd. So with only a few days to redeem it I got a dozen cupcakes for my coworkers as a sort of post-Easter celebration, and as a cover up for me to try some more of their classic flavors! It felt pretty nice to have pre-paid for the Groupon months ago and then just put my order in and pick them up like I was getting the box for free (love mental money tricks like that). Among the classic vanilla, chocolate and red velvet I also snuck in some snickerdoodle and lemon-lemon since I’m not a huge fan of classic flavors. I loveeddd the snickerdoodle, the cake was denser than I remember from that shop, very tasty and the frosting was heavenly. So much cinnamon and butter it was awesome, the ultimate cinnamon lover’s dream. I remember seeing a recipe for Cinnamon Toast Crunch cupcakes a while back that I sent to my cinnamon-loving boyfriend and can only imagine that’s what they tasted like. The lemon-lemon cake was very good, the cake tasted like a light pound cake and the frosting was vibrantly lemony but it was oddly grainy, and not just from the sanding sugar. I’d say the snickerdoodle was the clear winner between the two.
Next week is really starting off with a bang with TWO specials in each of my shops! Monday just happens to be National Blueberry Pie day and Trophy Cupcakes is rolling out their blueberry pie cupcakes for one day only. They’ll start with a pie crust base, a vanilla bean cake body, blueberry pie filling center and a vanilla buttercream topping. Yum…. just yum… my mouth is watering. Additionally, if you’re like me and are happy to attend any type of free-food event, you’re in luck! This upcoming Monday is free scoop day at Cupcake Royale from 2pm to 8pm! You really shouldn’t be missing this (I’m considering requesting the night off from work….), it’s a FREE scoop of ice cream. Really amazing ice cream at that, and you might as well throw in a cupcake or two while you’re there to save yourself the trip. Plan yourself an ice cream + cupcake pairing afternoon. Stumptown coffee ice cream with a tiramisu cake? Yes please. The promotion is happening in all shops except West Seattle and Madrona so to make up for it, those locations will give you 30% off all pints, all day! Here’s the catch: in order to get your free ice cream you need to download the Friends of Cupcake Royale (F.O.C.R) app on your phone. It’s a type of loyalty app that stores your credit card information so you can pay with your phone, earn rewards, and spend the rewards bucks you receive! For instance, just by downloading this free app I got 2$ to spend at Cupcake Royale, which if you think about it, I got paid to download an app and I’m getting free ice cream too. It’s such a win-win.
ERMAGERHHDDDD so excited. Monday is going to be the best day ever. Cheers to free ice cream and tasty cupcakes!
