I know the subscription service boxes are having their moment right now and I took some time to search around for a great, affordable food product box. What better way to expose myself to new artisan food products than a monthly box full of them??
My past subscription box experiences have included Birchbox and Full Circle. Birchbox is a steal at $10 a month and sends makeup samples to fit your beauty profile. While it was fun for a few months it wasn’t my thing. I did find an awesome chubby white highlighter eye pencil that I love but other than that, having makeup samples floating around my bathroom just stressed me out. Full Circle is a grocery delivery box for organic produce in CA, OR, and WA and while I loved the thought behind it, I thought I could find better local and/or organic produce in the grocery store. Delivery was an issue at my old apartment too so since I’ve moved, I’ve been considering re-subscribing for another month. I did love the access to their other grocery items, like locally made bread, eggs, and meats.
After some serious research for my new gourmet food box subscription I decided on the Taste Trunk: Gourmet and the Hatchery box (okay I couldn’t really decide so I got both.) These two seemed to include products that I would be most interested in (not just little snack bags of pistachios, not that those aren’t great…), and were in my budget range. The Taste Trunk focuses on gourmet, artisan foods from around the US and the Hatchery is similar though the sizes are more sample size and focus on locally made cooking ingredients. The blog My Subscription Addiction was a HUGE help in this decision, practically every subscription box available is listed on there, along with reviews and coupons for certain boxes.
Taste Trunk has several option of boxes to subscribe to, you can choose Gourmet, Health, Sweet, or BBQ. By signing up with my email on my first visit, I received a 40% coupon for my first box, not a bad deal! The basic box is $23.99 plus shipping which includes 4-8 items. Since I was already getting the discount, I upgraded to the Premium box for my first month, I saved about $12 regardless! In the future, I definitely think I’ll alternate between the Sweet and Health boxes, I’m not a huge fan of BBQ items. I really want to see all the products they have! The Hatchery tasting box is very budget friendly at $20 a box, shipping included, and you receive 5-6 sample size products. I found a 50% off your first box coupon online so that made my first box definitely worth it! Since I just subscribed, I’ll be waiting for a bit to receive my boxes but I can’t wait to see learn about new food businesses, sample their products and review the boxes. Stay tuned!
